The Jackdaw and the Fox
A half-famished seated himself on a fig-tree, which had produced some fruit entirely out of season, and waited in the hope that the figs would ripen. A Fox seeing him sitting so long and learning the reason of his doing so, said to him, “You are indeed, sir, sadly deceiving yourself; you are indulging hope strong enough to you, but which will never reward you with enjoyment.”

Tin rằng chắc chỉ sớm trưa được xài
Cáo thấy quạ ngồi hoài một chỗ
Mới hỏi han biết rõ sự tình
Cười rằng “ngài tự lừa mình
Nuông chiều hi vọng linh tinh hão huyền
Chắp tay kính ngài ngồi thiền
Đến khi quả chín rồi xem thế nào.”
The Eagle and the Fox
An Eagle and a Fox formed an intimate friendship and decided to live near each other. The Eagle built her nest in the branches of a tall tree, while the Fox crept into the underwood and there produced her young.
Not long after they had agreed upon this plan, the Eagle, being in want of provision for her young ones, swooped down while the Fox was out, seized upon one of the little cubs, and feasted herself and her brood
The Fox on her return, discovered what had happened, but was less grieved for the death of her young than for her inability to avenge them.
A just retribution however, quickly fell upon the Eagle. While hovering near an altar, on which some villagers were sacrificing a goat, she suddenly seized a piece of the flesh, and carried it, along with a burning cinder, to her nest. A strong breeze soon fanned the spark into a flame, and the eaglets, as yet unfledged and helpless, were roasted in their nest and dropped down dead at the bottom of the tree. There, in the sight of the Eagle, the Fox gobbled them up.

Thích gần nhau đàm đạo chuyện trò
Nên chim chọn cành cây to
là nơi làm tổ. Cáo mò gốc cây
cũng tìm được chỗ hay làm ổ
và sinh ra mấy chú cáo con.
Bạn bè một tuần chưa tròn
Thì Đại bàng gặp phải hôm đói mồi.
Không có gì để nuôi lũ nhỏ
Thấy Cáo đang chạy đó chạy đây
Đại bàng lao xuống cắp ngay
Một con cáo nhỏ lên bày tiệc trưa
Lúc về ổ Cáo thừa hiểu chuyện
Rất đau lòng thương tiếc đứa con
Nhưng mà còn uất ức hơn
Vì không có cách trả hờn “bạn thân”
Nhưng quả báo luôn gần kẻ ác
Khi Đại bàng kiếm chác thịt dê
Nơi am thờ hiến tế về
đùi dê đang đốt máu mê than vùi
Gió bừng lên lửa ngời âm ỉ
Đốt cháy luôn tổ quí Đại bàng
Chim non vừa mới ra ràng
Thành chim quay rơi cạnh hang Cáo già
Không thủ ác Cáo ta cứ chén
Kệ phía trên chứng kiến Đại bàng
Mới hay thân hữu, họ hàng
Hại nhau thì họa tìm đàng đến nhanh.
