The Scorpion and the Frog
A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, “How do I know you won’t sting me?” The scorpion
says, “Because if I do, I will die too.”
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp “Why?”
Replies the scorpion: “Its my nature…”

Bọ Cạp gặp Ếch bên bờ suối
Nhờ qua bằng cách cưỡi trên lưng
Ếch băn khoăn hỏi lại rằng
“Nhỡ đâu cậu lại đốt sằng cắn xiên?”
Bọ Cạp cả quyết liền với Ếch:
“- Cắn cậu để tớ chết theo à”
Vững lòng Ếch cõng Cạp qua
Đến ngang dòng bỗng Cạp ta đốt liền
Tê liệt đến nhỡn tiền cùng Ếch
Biết cả hai cùng chết với nhau
Ếch còn cố hỏi “Tại sao…?”
Cạp cười nhăn nhở: “Tính tao vậy mà!!!”
The Piglet, the Sheep, and the Goat
A Young Pig was shut up in a fold-yard with a Goat and a Sheep. On one occasion when the shepherd laid hold of him, he grunted and squeaked and resisted violently. The Sheep and the Goat complained of his distressing cries, saying, “He often handles us, and we do not cry out.”
To this the Pig replied, “Your handling and mine are very different things. He catches you only
for your wool, or your milk, but he lays hold on me for my life.”
Heo con, Cừu và Dê
Heo con bị nhốt trong bãi nhỏ
Cừu và Dê cùng ở, ăn theo
Một lần chủ trại tóm Heo
Heo ta kháng cự, thét kêu kinh hoàng.
Cừu và Dê lấy làm khó chịu
Với tiếng kêu, la réo ồn ào
Nói rằng «Họ tóm chúng tao
Cả hai có giãy giụa, gào gì đâu… »
Heo con nói «khác nhau hẳn đấy
Tóm bà Dê họ lấy sữa tươi
Tóm ông Cừu xén lông thôi
Tóm tôi lấy thịt thì đời còn không?»…
